How AI could reshape Global Education — and what comes after
(by Kolawole Samuel Adebay)
June 27, 2025 - Artificial intelligence could be moving from an optional add-on in educational institutions to being an integral part of how students learn. That’s, at least, what developments like Ohio State University’s decision to roll out AI-fluency modules across its undergraduate programs by autumn of 2025 suggest. And it’s not an isolated development. Back in October 2024, California passed a bill mandating schools to incorporate AI literacy into their curricula. (…)

Maryland Bahá’í Chair – Scholars and artists envision a future beyond racial categories
June 3, 2025 – COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, United States — A conference co-organized by the Bahá’í Chair for World Peace at the University of Maryland brought together scholars and artists to examine racism at its roots, arguing that lasting justice demands not only countering prejudice but transcending the very idea of separate human “races.” The online event, “Abolishing Racism: Creating a Future without Race,” drew some 200 participants from 18 countries to examine what the Chair called “racial eliminativism”—the concept that ending racism requires dismantling the notion of “race” itself. Over the Bahá’í Chair’s 13-year exploration of racism as a barrier to peace, the issue has come into greater focus, said Hoda Mahmoudi, holder of the Chair. “For thirteen years, we have approached racism from numerous angles,” she said. “But now we are looking at a critical issue: that race is a human-made construct,” she explained. “As long as we keep that word in our vocabulary as a divider, we place another barrier to peace. ”Dr. Mahmoudi explained that the conference highlighted several spiritual principles essential to addressing prejudice, among them the oneness of humankind, the independent investigation of truth, and the harmony of science and religion. Church groups say more action needed on global debt crisis
Church groups have called at the end of a major UN summit for governments to act on commitments to end a debt crisis that is driving poverty worldwide.
July 18, 2025 – Member organisations of the Catholic aid confederation Caritas Internationalis warned that commitments at the Fourth International Financing for Development (FFD4) summit were a “starting point” and that more steps must be taken to relieve debt burdens. Governments at the summit, which took place between 30 June to 3 July in Seville, Spain, expressed support for measures to suspend demands for debt payments when countries have been struck by climate disasters. Negotiators also indicated willingness to create a global registry to track lending, which campaigners argue is necessary to make loans more transparent and deter creditors from charging extortionate interest rates. More than 50 countries are spending over 10 per cent of their tax revenues on paying interest bills on loans, depriving governments of the resources necessary to provide essential public services. Against this backdrop, as we reflect on the outcomes of the FFD4 summit, Caritas Internationalis welcomes several important steps that echo the spirit of our Turn Debt into Hope campaign. The Sevilla Commitment (“Compromiso de Sevilla”) places people – especially those living in poverty, and the fight against inequality – at the heart of decisions about social protection and international cooperation (paragraph 10). Holland, without cellulars in classrooms improves student performance and sociality
July 8, 2025- Taking a step backwards can sometimes be necessary to improve the future. This is demonstrated by the choice of Dutch schools who, on 1 January 2024, caused a stir by making a seemingly anachronistic move: banning smartphones and all devices in general from classrooms. According to research, 75 per cent of secondary schools report improved student concentration and 59 per cent of headmasters are convinced of generally healthier social relationships. The benefits would also be directly linked to pupils' performance, with 28% of headmasters reporting a general improvement in homework and exams.

The 5 most-bikeable big Cities in the USA — Can you name them?

June 28, 2025 – (…) PeopleForBikes does annual rankings of the most-bikeable cities in the USA. It ranks cities in three categories — large, medium, and small. Various factors go into the rankings. Naturally, it takes time to make big changes in bike infrastructure or launch big bike programs, so rankings don’t change dramatically, but some exceptional programs and policies can shoot a city up the rankings fairly fast. This year has a new #1, but there’s also a slight asterisk there.
